Boards & Commissions

  1. Airport Authority

    The Airport Authority is appointed by the Board of Commissioners to advise and consult on operations, improvements and capital projects.

  2. Board of Adjustments

    The Board of Adjustments is there to address unusual situations or unique problems that may arise from the strict interpretation or enforcement of the Unified Development Code (UDC).

  3. Board of Assessors

    The Jackson County Board of Assessors is the agency charged with the responsibility of establishing the fair market value of property for ad valorem taxation purposes.

  4. Board of Elections & Registration

    The Board of Elections and Registration manages all voter registrations using as guidelines the Georgia Elections Code and the U.S. Justice Department Regulations.

  5. Planning Commission

    The Planning Commission provides the Board of Commissioners with a broad range of support on planning and development issues.

  6. Board of Health

    Jackson County Board of Health is responsible for evaluating the county's health needs, developing programs, activities, and facilities in response to those needs, as well as enforcing health laws and establishing fees for public health services.

  7. Department of Family and Children Services

    This agency, under the guidance of the Georgia Department of Human Resources Region 5, provides and administers all welfare and public assistance functions for the county including programs for temporary assistance to needy families (TANF), Medicaid, food stamps, and child protective services.

  8. Keep Jackson County Beautiful

    Keep Jackson County Beautiful (KJCB), a local affiliate of the Keep Georgia Beautiful and Keep American Beautiful, promotes environmental awareness and education through litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification programs. KJCB sponsors annual recycling programs and other events.

  9. Industrial Development Authority

    The Jackson County Industrial Development Authority is to promote industry and develop industry.

  10. Northeast Georgia Aging Services Advisory Council

    The Northeast Georgia Aging Services Advisory Council provides access and services to the elderly.

  11. Board of Library Trustees

    The Board of Library Trustees oversee the local affairs of the Jackson County Library program.

  12. Northeast Georgia Regional Commission

    The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission is located in Athens, GA.

  13. Northeast Georgia Solid Waste Management Authority

    The NEGRC Solid Waste Management Authority consists of representatives from ten counties.

  14. Northeast Georgia Workforce Development

    The Northeast Georgia Workforce Development is responsible for oversight of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.

  15. Oconee River Resource Conservation & Development

    Oconee River Resource Conservation & Development Council is a non-profit organization.

  16. Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee

    The Parks & Recreation Advisory Council oversees recreational programs.

  17. Dangerous Dog Committee

    The Dangerous Dog Committee is responsible for hearing cases regarding dangerous and vicious dogs.

  18. Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority

    The Upper Oconee Basin Water Authority was passed by the General Assembly in 1994.

  19. Water & Sewerage Authority

    The Water & Sewerage Authority is an independent Authority.

  20. Community Service Board

    The Community Service Board is the agency responsible for mental health and other developmental disability and disease services.
