NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
Realignment (Redistricting) of County Commission District Lines
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the release of 2010 Census requires review of County Commission districts and other local government districts for changes in current population size within a district.
County Commission districts are legally required to comply with the principle of “one person, one vote”. If population changes, districts must be redrawn to have as nearly equal population as possible so that the voting strength of citizens living in one district is not greater than the voting strength in another district. Redistricting must be done in a way that does not dilute the voting strength of minority populations.
A map of the proposed realignment of Jackson County Commission District boundaries is currently available for public inspection and viewing on the Jackson County website at www.jacksoncountygov.com; at the County Manager’s office at 67 Athens Street, Jefferson, Georgia 30549; and at the local Jefferson Public Library located at 379 Old Pendergrass Road, Jefferson, Georgia 30549.
A public hearing will be held during the Jackson County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting at the Jackson County Courthouse on Monday, January 16, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. in order to receive comments from the public on the proposed map and the redrawing of County Commission district lines.
The public is encouraged to attend and comment.
Kevin Poe, Clerk
Jackson County Board of Commissioners
