JCCI Provides labor for the Road Department

The Road Department uses on average 70 inmates per day on its details. Based on 2000 work hours per year per person this amounts to 140,000 man hours per year!

IF you could hire civilian workers to perform the work done by inmates at a cost of $10 per hour (and you couldn't’t), this department alone would have to spend $1,400,000 per year!

JCCI Provides labor for Vehicle Maintenance

Using an average of 15 inmates per day, the Shop provides routine maintenance as well as repair work and body work for all vehicles owned by Jackson County including cars, trucks, heavy equipment, tractors, mowers, etc.

The inmates assigned to the Shop Detail log more than 30,000 hours per year which would cost the county over $750,000 annually! Inmates on this detail are skilled workers such as gasoline mechanics, diesel mechanics, body work professionals, and more. They perform most of their work at the Shop, but also go out on special details to work on equipment broken down on the road.

The Fleet Maintenance department is certainly a huge cost- saving department for the county and the taxpayers!

JCCI Provides labor for Buildings & Grounds

The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Department is comprised of General Maintenance, HVAC, Janitorial, and Grounds crews as well as a County Mobile Construction team.

Based on an average of 12 inmates year-round, the department saves over $360,000 annually for the 24,000 plus man-hours performed by this group.

JCCI Provides labor for the Solid Waste Department

In 2003 the Jackson County Transfer Station processed 21,000 tons of garbage.

In 2009 there was a significant increase of 18% processing approximately 23,000 tons.

This detail performs almost 30,000 man-hours per year, which would cost the county nearly $300,000 using civilian labor.

Jackson County does not have a landfill any longer, so the inmates assigned to this detail operate a transfer station at which garbage is collected and compacted into trailers for disposal at the Banks County landfill. The inmates also process scrap metal for recycling and load trailers with tires to be recycled by an environmentally conscious vendor.

In 2010 construction began on the new Solid Waste facility, which will allow a more efficient operation upon its completion.  The images below show the before and after facility.
