Permit Process

To submit a building permit application, please visit Jackson County's Citizen Self Service portal:
Please remember that your username is not your email address. Also, CSS has shown to function better in Google Chrome. Lastly, the applicant/owner is responsible for submitting to outside agencies.   

The following will be required to be scanned and uploaded to the online application to obtain a permit:

  1. Sewerage: if public sewerage is provided, a receipt that the sewer connection has been paid is required.  Otherwise, if a septic tank will be used, a septic tank permit is needed from the Jackson County Environmental Health Office which is located at:

  2. A receipt that the water connection has been paid is required
  3. E-911 address for property - the linked form can be filled out and either emailed to or delivered in person
  4. A copy of the recorded plat from the Clerk of Courts office
  5. A set of scaled construction drawings with dimensions (foundation plan with details, floor plan of each level, elevations, and wall details)
  6. House location plan: scaled lot drawing with a scaled footprint of house and any other structure located on property, show building limitations and setback requirements
  7. Contractor's licensing documentation (state and business license)
  8. Subcontractor's licensing documentation (state and business license)
    • If you are a homeowner contractor or a homeowner subcontractor, you will need to fill out the linked homeowner affidavit form and upload it with your permit application.  
  9. Copy of GSWCC Level 1A certification (Blue Card)  
  10. Preconstruction tertiary approval form (if applicable)
  11. Copy of NOI with USPS certification (if applicable)

The Jackson County Building Inspections Division uses the following codes when conducting inspections:
