The District Attorney is elected by the voters of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit that consists of Barrow, Jackson, and Banks counties for four year terms.  The District Attorney represents the state in all criminal cases in Superior Court and in all cases taken up from the Superior Court to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.  The District Attorney advises grand juries in grand jury, prosecutes all indictable offenses, prosecutes or defends any civil action in which the state is interested, argues criminal cases on appeal, and assists the attorney general when certain prosecutions are moved to a U.S. District Court.
